Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-01
MilkNHoney ("the app") is developed by MilkNHoney. This policy explains what the app collects, what it shares, and why — in plain language, matching what the app itself tells you in Settings → Privacy.
Account information
If you create a MilkNHoney account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password (via Supabase Authentication) solely to let you sign in. This is never sold, shared with advertisers, or shared with any public database.
Location
The app requests location access only to search for nearby stores when you choose to report a price. Your location is used live, in that moment, and is not stored on any server or shared beyond that one search.
Camera
The app requests camera access only to scan barcodes, photograph an ingredients list for reading, and photograph a price tag or receipt as proof when you report a price.
What gets published publicly
When you explicitly submit a price report, the price, product identifier, store location, and photo you provide are sent to Open Prices (an Open Food Facts project) and published publicly and permanently, under the Open Database License 1.0 (data) and CC BY-SA 4.0 (photos). Anyone can view and reuse this data. Your MilkNHoney account email is never included in it. Please don't include anything personal in the photo itself.
Read-only third-party lookups
The app looks up product, ingredient, recall, store, and pricing information from Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, FDA's openFDA, the Kroger API, OpenStreetMap, OCR.space, SerpApi, and optional AI providers. These are read-only lookups, but the lookup input must be sent to the provider you choose to use: barcodes are sent for product lookup, product names or barcodes may be sent for ingredient and price lookup, ingredients photos may be sent to OCR.space, store search text plus an approximate location bias may be sent to OpenStreetMap, a search term is sent to SerpApi when you use "Compare Online" in the Pricing tab (SerpApi is a paid search API — it does not receive your location, account, or scan history, only the text you search), and optional AI photo/product lookups may send the captured photo to the AI provider.
If you paste a product link to check its price (in the "Report a Price" flow), the app fetches that URL directly — no third-party intermediary — to read the page's own publicly published price information. Only paste links you're comfortable this app requesting on your behalf.
Optional AI ingredients lookup
If enabled (it is off by default), the app may send a product's name and brand to Anthropic's Claude API to search the web for its ingredients when no other source has them. No personal or account information is included in this request.
Optional AI photo lookup
If enabled (it is off by default), the app may send a captured product photo to Anthropic's Claude API to identify visible products and prices. No account information is included, but you should avoid including people, payment cards, addresses, receipts with personal details, or anything else sensitive in the photo.
Crash and error reporting
The app uses Sentry to detect and diagnose crashes and errors — without it, we'd have no way to know the app broke for you short of you telling us. This sends your IP address (used to approximate your country/region for the crash report, standard for this kind of tooling) plus technical details about the crash: device type, OS version, app version, and the code path where the error happened. For a random sample of sessions (10%, or 100% of sessions where an error occurred), Sentry also records a "session replay" — a reconstruction of what was on screen, but with all text, images, and other content masked/blocked out by default, so this is layout and navigation flow, not a literal recording of what you saw or typed. None of this is linked to your MilkNHoney account email or password.
Data we never share
Your account email, password, and on-device scan history never leave your control except as described above. Scan history is stored only on your device.
